Fountains Of Wayne Rounds Up Rarities
Fountains Of Wayne has gathered two disc's worth of rarities for the album "Out-of-State Plates," due June 28 via Virgin. The set also boasts two new songs: "The Girl I Can't Forget" and the single "Maureen," which will be worked to U.S. radio outlets.
Among the long-buried items here is the band's cover of Britney Spears' "...Baby One More Time," which was recorded in 1999 but never officially released. It has circulated in poor quality ever since, thanks to frequent airings on "The Howard Stern Show."
Also featured are compilation tracks such as "Half a Woman" from a Launch magazine CD, "Karpet King" from a Scratchie Records sampler and "California Sex Lawyer" from the disc "International Pop Overthrow Vol. 3."
Rounding out "Out-of-State Plates" are such covers as Aztec Camera's "Killermont Street," Electric Light Orchestra's "Can't Get It Out of My Head" and Gene Pitney's "Today's Teardrops."
Fountains Of Wayne are working on a new studio album, but there is no targeted release date, according to a spokesperson. The group will play a handful of shows this year, including a May 22 benefit for the homeless organization Sing for the Children at Rumsey Playfield in New York's Central Park.
As previously reported, FOW member Adam Schlesinger's original band, Ivy, will begin a brief North American tour April 22 in New York in support of its new Nettwerk album, "In the Clear."
Here is the track list for "Out-of-State Plates":
